Each new Beamline and Endstation that we commission is the most important project to its Scientist owner. However any collaboration involving outside funding is normally considered to be very important as we are showing our skills off to a wider audience. Our last big collaboration project involved a double branch Beamline over 100 metres long that went under the road into a custom made building containing a massive robot controlled end station. Due to the size and complexity this was very challenging and as it was part funded by Manchester Uni we had to get it up and running in time to ensure funding continued.

      Hi Hasna,

I do a lot of important stuff and all my projects contribute towards something very important.

However, I am working on big projects that unfold devices in space. Look for ‘Oxford Space Systems’ on youtube to watch some interesting stuff. We do novel flexible materials that have a lot of potential and can be stored in a small volume and the design results in a low mass. No one has ever done something like us for space.

Therefore, I feel all my projects are very important. However, I designed a mathematical program that calculates that if I enter the material properties that I wanna use and tell the program to optimise for the best pefromance, then it calculates how it should be built to give the most out of it. I am proud of it :).

I hope this answered your question.

Last year I was asked to create a new way for us track how old aircraft components like engines are tracked. I had a small team of about 6 and we managed to save a lot of money and time – we got an award as well which was great!
